Christmas Lunch at the Victoria

Despite the incessant rain which threatened to flood the roads to and from the Victoria Hotel in Sidmouth, 72 members, partners and friends attended our annual Christmas lunch in the beautifully decorated hotel and enjoyed a first class meal at a heavily subsidised price. There were a number of new members present and these were particularly welcomed by Chairman, Garry Adams, who extended the welcome to everyone present. Good wishes were conveyed to all members for a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year with a reminder about our next function which is a Valentine’s Day (February 14th) free coffee morning at the White Horse Inn, Woodbury Salterton (from 10.30am).

Bickleigh Mill for Coffee, Cakes and Shopping

A record 28 members attended the annual event at Bickleigh Mill near Tiverton on November 15th and were able to enjoy not only coffee or tea and cakes free of charge but also the beautifully stocked shop there full of tempting Christmas gifts. Most of the group stayed on for lunch (at their expense) and the visit was voted a great success ahead of the forthcoming (and heavily subsidised) Christmas Lunch at the Victoria Hotel Sidmouth. See Newsletter for full details.

Lunch at the White Horse Inn

The White Horse Inn at Woodbury Salterton was again the venue for an informal lunch on 17th October and 32 members enjoyed the fare on offer especially as it was subsidised by £10 per person from the Club.

Cream Tea at Powderham

Another highly subsidised outing for 33 of our members who enjoyed a lovely cream tea at Powderham near Exeter once again. Highly subsidised? Yes, it was free!

For details of further events you can enjoy if you become a member of our Pensioners’ Club check out our Newsletter in this website.

Seaton Tramway and Cream Tea

A great day was enjoyed recently with the weather dry and warm as 23 members made a return journey to the Seaton Tramway. Our own single decker tram, driven by the informative Chris, took us to Colyton where, in the station cafe, we were treated to a delicious – and free- cream tea. Mick Mabbutt’s replica Spread Eagle was in the vanguard as we returned to Seaton continuing the lively chatter on this special outing.

Return to the Belmont

We have not been back to the Belmont Hotel in Sidmouth for several years but we are glad we booked lunch there recently as both the food and service were excellent. 34 members enjoyed a leisurely meal and good company and the fine weather helped. The lunch was heavily subscribed by the Club.

Our next venture is to Seaton Tramway on Wednesday 7th June. For full deatils see our Newsletter page.

Cream Tea in Tiverton

Twenty four members enjoyed a cream tea at the Hartnoll Hotel in Bolham, Tiverton on 27th April. There was some discussion about cream or jam first on the scones as some members were Cornish but there was plenty of both and it was made more pleasurable by the fact that it was all free, the Club having fully subsidised the event. No-one was in a hurry to get away and there were a variety of stories being told with Barclays Bank being mentioned on the odd occasion! Next function? At the Belmont Hotel on 23rd May – see our latest Newsletter for more details.

Free Coffee at the White Horse Inn

Sixteen members attended the White Horse Inn at Woodbury Salterton on March 30th and enjoyed coffee, tea and biscuits totally subsidised by the Club. A few stayed on for lunch (at their expense!). Another opportunity for a good chat and fellowship with an occasional reference to Barclays.

The next function is also free – a cream tea at the Hartnoll Hotel, Bolham near Tiverton on Thursday 27th April at 3pm. Full details in our next Newsletter which will be issued on 1st April.

Please see our Contact Us page if you would like to be added to our members’ database.

Annual General Meeting 2023

The AGM for 2023 was held on 9th March at the Swan’s Nest near Exminster when 36 members attended. Garry Adams as both Chairman and Treasurer reported on the year’s events and planned events for the future. The Club is in a good state financially thanks to continued grants from the Bank and the future lunches, coffee mornings, cream teas and other visits will be heavily subsidised.

The Committee members remain unchanged but with the welcome addition of Wendy Mitten.

The Minutes of the AGM may be obtained by contacting Les Rendell (lesrendell41@gmail.com)

Christmas is coming…

On Thursday 8th December sixty one members attended our Christmas Luncheon at the Victoria Hotel in Sidmouth and this final event of our program for 2022 was well received and enjoyed.

The staff at The Victoria looked after us in their usual friendly and efficient manner and we were able to appreciate the magnificent Christmas decorations (and a Reindeer) that we have come to expect.

All-in-all we had a super time with delicious food, good company and the bonus of a dry, bright, sunny day.

We wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
